Sudoku, one of the world’s most popular pastimes, has reached a new level of fun. Salamander Software today announced the launch of SpeedSudoku.com — not just another free online Sudoku game. This new website challenges Sudoku enthusiasts to test their problem-solving skills against players from around the globe. Initial feedback from the Beta stage reveals that Speed Sudoku’s concept is long overdue in the online gaming market.

“Each day, millions of Sudoku lovers pick up their newspaper and play their favorite game,” explains Salamander Software founder Brian Lack. “But playing alone can get a little boring. The idea that you can compete against others from around the world, really breathes new life into the daily brain buster.”

Speed Sudoku offers real-time puzzle races for up to eight players at a time. Players can view standings and statistics, allowing them to know where they rank, worldwide. The website’s forum allows players to interact with fellow Sudoku aficionados and discuss strategies and other interests, 24 hours a day.

“We’re creating a real Sudoku community,” continues Lack. “There’s never been anything quite like this and we’re confident that players will start putting down the paper and challenging themselves on SpeedSudoku.com.” [via PRWeb]

It’s got a few bugs, but it has a ton of potential… I can see people really getting into racing each other …. I also like the idea of tournaments… could be huge …

Sudoku is not a hype but it seems it will stay forever just like crossword puzzles. Speed Sudoku could be a success indeed.
