My torturous adventure with wire puzzles continues this week with another fiendish puzzle, the Sidewinder. This is made by PuzzleMaster and it’s one of the hardest puzzles that I’ve tried so far. The goal is to remove the red string.

On top of being a very difficult puzzle to solve, the Sidewinder is a mixture of wire and string. If that’s not enough to scare you off, you’re one brave puzzler. Many of my previous attempts with string based puzzles have ended in complete disaster with some hard to disentangle knots. Because of this, whenever I face a [Read More...]

Todayís game is called Bloxorz.†† I remember being introduced to this game on the computer.† The friend who introduced it to me had gotten to level 23 already.† I played it and was instantly hooked at finishing it.† I then got an android phone and started playing it on there.† They had even more levels on there and they were different then the computer ones.† Well now that Iím hooked I had to play it all the way through.

The goal of the game is easy enough; move the 3d rectangle into the hole.† You will have to flip the [Read More...]

BeeCells Lite: free puzzle app for iphone & ipad

BeeCells Lite

The object of BeeCells Lite is to move the colored tiles around – one at a time – until they form clusters of 6 or more. They will disappear, you will score points, and the program will randomly generate new colored cells.

I thought that my top score of 405 was pretty darn good. I’ve played this puzzle app for several hours. Then I checked the leaderboard. First, my score only put me in the top 45%. Second, the top score is over 85,000.

I am flabbergasted that someone could achieve that. Furthermore, many other players have scored in the [Read More...]

Hungarian Tower of Babel puzzle

This week we have the Hungarian Tower of Babel puzzle.† This is an old school puzzle that came out around the same time as the Rubik’s cube.† I donít remember seeing this puzzle as a kid but I wish did I because it is a lot of fun.† The goal is to scramble up the colors and then place the colors back in place.† There is an added difficulty because each color goes from a very light to dark.† I have not quite solved it yet but Iíve been having a great time playing [Read More...]

Oskar van Deventer has invented so many puzzles over the last thirty years that he could fill up a museum with all of his creations. The one that I’m reviewing today is another great design by him, which consists of four mazes that need to be solved simultaneously.

The Medallion (originally called Four D), was initially made by George Miller in acrylic and was Oskar’s exchange puzzle at the 23rd annual IPP (International Puzzle Party). It was later picked by Hanayama for mass-production and is now sold at PuzzleMaster.

The puzzle bears a slight resemblance to [Read More...]

Arrow Point: puzzle app is free until September 3rd.

Arrow Point 1

The object of Arrow Point is to place 16 tiles in the middle of the grid so that the numbered squares on the perimeter have exactly that many number of arrows pointing at them.

Look at the first image. Notice the tiles all have 1 arrow and they are orthogonal.† Now look at the second image. The tiles have two arrows and they are orthogonal and diagonal. Tough!

Look at the squares in the perimeter. See the yellow one that says 2/3. The top number indicates that many arrows should point to it. The bottom number indicates that 3 arrows [Read More...]

Gone Buggy: free puzzle app for iphone, ipad

Gone buggy 1

Gone Buggy is a packing puzzle consisting of mostly 1, 2 & 4 sized tiles in the shapes of bugs.

The objective is to fit them into the grid.

If you can’t do it, then you can fry a bug into smaller bits with the magnifying glass.

As you can see, there are 99 levels. I’ve played Gone Buggy for about 4 hours and solved 44 levels.

I normally eschew this type of ‘fill the tray with pieces’ puzzle. Gone Buggy has a certain flair. Perhaps it’s the fact that it gives you 1 piece at a time. I think [Read More...]
