Soma Cube (Medium) Wooden Brain Teaser Puzzle

The Soma Cube (Medium) Wooden Brain Teaser Puzzle was invented by Piet Hein in 1933 .It is a classic brainteaser puzzle almost in the league with Rubik’s cube. It has been made and sold by many puzzle manufacturers and in various materials and sizes. It is a relatively simple puzzle to solve even for a novice unlike the Rubik’s Cube or the Snake or Serpent’s Cube. Even once you have taken it apart, no challenge at all, and reassembled it as a cube. It’s still lots of fun trying to construct other shapes.

This particular version is very well made of exotic (Asian) wood and comes in a wooden container. It’s small size less than 2″cube makes it easy to carry around. My only criticism which is minor is that the container box lid does not fit well and easily falls off. So if you plan to carry it around, I suggest using an elastic band or a cloth covered hair band. I use them a lot as they don’t dry out and break like plain elastic bands and you’ll find them in Dollar Stores. If you want to see what a fascinating puzzle this is and why it has held its popularity for 80 years, check it out on Wikipedia. It is a great starter puzzle and stocking stuffer. The Soma Cube is one of the best puzzles of the 20th century. There are 240 distinct ways to assemble it, and in each of the solutions there is only one place that the “T” piece can be placed. SOMA-puzzles are incorporated in official tests that psychologist use in evaluating cognitive features of a person. Majority of people find this puzzle addictive and fun.
