I was flabbergasted to find out that brown packing tape was used to create this marvelous street art. I find this City Tales masterpiece so unique and absolutely enthralling. At first, I thought that I was seeing digital artwork because it looked smooth and almost flawless. What really amuses me is the excellent shading and I can see the hard work and passion of Max in his work.

About the City Tales

Max uses stick on layers of thin acrylic glass sheets. The more layers of tape he adds, the darker the shades on the artwork become. The different shades of brown allow him to shape out his scenes and portraits. Max uses an ordinary scalpel or X-Acto knife to cut and shape the layers of tape. The last thing he needs is a lit window.

I have discovered that the light brings life to his tape art. Like the effect of stained glass windows, light filters through the many layers of tape, creating a visual image. Any kind of lighting can work: sunlight, candles, light bulbs, LED lighting and light boxes. Nevertheless, there’s a big difference between a tape artwork that’s illuminated and the one that isn’t. Outside street lamps and other urban lighting are perfect urban display frames. Max’s preferred frames are self-made light boxes with integrated LED lights.
