Sudoku Combat - Multiplayer Sudoku
Being bored playing Sudoku alone ? Well Marc Belmont created Sudoku Combat [link updated]. This browser-based multiplayer version of the popular Sudoku puzzle offers you a new experience for those that prefer a more competitive challenge. If you just want to practice solving Sudoku's there is also Sudoku Basic (one player version).
Enter a user name, or just play as guest, select a puzzle difficulty (easy, medium, hard or evil) and then choose to play against a friend or a another visitor of the Sudoku Combat website and race to the finish.
At the beginning of a new Sudoku game, your opponent's progress is shown in a grid to the right of your own, which adds a little pressure to the mix. A chat window allows for teasing and taunting or friendly chat during play.
Friendly play: To play against a friend, have one person initiate a game by clicking the "Play against a friend" button. Doing so will display a URL link to copy and send to your friend via email or instant messenger.
Settings: During play you may select to have cells display multiple numbers if you are like me and need to make little notes while you solve a puzzle. You may also turn on/off the use of colored numbers, as well as the display of the timer. An additional feature called "sticky keys" will insert the last number you typed into a cell just by clicking it.
Sudoku Combat works on Firefox 1.5 and Internet Explorer 6. It hasn't been tested on other browsers. As long as the browser is "AJAX compatible", it should work.
Good luck with your Sudoku Combat.

My blog was spammed about this site in the comments, but I decided to check it out anyway. I went over and, after a few false starts, began a game against an opponent named "Marc" who turned out to be the game's creator. It was fun, but I couldn't get a game going later because nobody else seemed to be playing.
Josh,
I played several times, especially for the difficult Sudoku's it is hard to find an opponent but reloading the page helped. I do have to say that I hate people who quit during a game when they see they can not win :-(
