Da Vince Code Ruling Cracked

Da Vinci Code"It's not usual practice for a High Court judge to issue a ruling in which he has hidden an encrypted message". That's a quote from one of the articles about the ruling concerning the book "The Da Vinci Code". The judges hide a secret message in the ruling (the pdf version can be found here). Judge Peter Smith put a secret message in the ruling of 71 pages by putting some letters in italic. The first letters formed the words "Smithy Code", referring to the title of the book of Dan Brown.

A group of lawyers found a number of random letters which could be transformed into: "Jackie Fisher who are you Dreadnought". They cracked the code by using the so called "Fibonacci sequence". Judge Peter Smith made it for the puzzlers a bit more difficult by making some typos.

The objective of Hexafex is to place numbers one to six in 6 triangles around each circle in the hexafex puzzle. I recommend you just visit their website to try one hexafex puzzle. By the way every day the release a new puzzle ... enjoy

Hitori

Hitori puzzleIn a previous post I already mentioned Puzzle Japan where I found my favorite Slither Link Puzzle books. At Puzzle Japan they have much more number puzzles and if may say so the are all Sudoku look-a-likes. One of my favorite puzzle right now is Hitori. The rules are simple:
1. Numbers never appear more than once in each row or column.
2. Painted cells are never adjacent in a row or a column.
3. Empty cells create a single continuous area, undivided by painted cells.
And the best thing is you can also solve Hitori puzzles at the Puzzle Japan website.

Stave Puzzles

Stave puzzlesFor people who love jigsaw puzzles and especially handcrafted and customized jigsaw puzzles there is Stave Puzzles. As they say at Stave puzzles: "they love to drive crazy with wooden jigsaw puzzles. Whether you're looking for a puzzle to distract you from life OR if you're looking for the perfect gift for someone who's impossible-to-buy-for, you'll find it at Stave." All their puzzles are crafted by and that shows in the price you will pay for a puzzle. For a handcrafted puzzle of 75 pieces (size 7" x 5.5") you will pay as little as $368 and their price range ends at a bit more than $3100 for a puzzle of 750 pieces (size 21.5" x 17.5").
And as they say this is what you will experience when you will receive your puzzles:
"When you see or touch a Stave puzzle, you'll know why. Each puzzle is meticulously hand-cut, one piece at a time, by a skilled crafter. No computers, no high-tech. One saw, one cutter - that's it. The material: cherry-backed, 5-layered, 1/4" wood polished to a soft gleam. Cut with delicately fine blades, each piece fits snugly with its mate. When you experience the slide, you appreciate the fit."
And I think it will when I touch a Stave puzzle ... I only have to save some money to order one ;-)

Q-Bism Magnetic Puzzle

Q-bism magnetic cube puzzleAs you probably noticed this website contains Google Ads to cover the costs of hosting this website. Once in a while I check out the ads to see if the ads are still relevant. Today I saw a link to physlink.com and took a look at it. They have an e-store with games & puzzle section. In there I saw a very nice magnetic cube called Q-bism magnetic puzzles. The Q-bism puzzle is a 3-D, magnetic puzzle with 27 cube shaped pieces.
Physlink.com describes this puzzle as "a profoundly puzzling puzzle! This innovative magnetic puzzle is comprised of many three dimensional cubes which join together to form one large cube. The trick to solve the puzzle is to match up the many different cubes colorful patterns with other matching cubes patterns. The forces of magnetism, working with and against you, as well as the colored graphics on each of the six faces of the smaller cubes, serve as a guide to solving a Q-bism puzzle, which can only be solved one way."

Plenus 21

Plenus 21On a Japanese site called Aura Collection I found a puzzle called Plenus 21 and is designed by Peer Clahsen. Although the puzzle is sold out it's looks very nice and interesting. The puzzle is solved when it is subdivided into a number of unequal squares (net), or reversed, when several squares are completely put together as a square. Plenus 21 forms a "perfect" square block. Peer Clahsen discovered the base code of Plenus 21 (linking of a smallest possible square) in 1976. Each different square consisted of 21 squares is put into one square.
