Ultra Block Flash Puzzle Game

Ultra Block created by Corn Nuts is a clone of the famous puzzle game Collapse (puzzle game published in 1999 by GameHouse). Your object is to eliminate the blocks in this puzzle game to stop them from getting to the top. Click on groups of three or more blocks to destruct them but be careful of clicking on a block that isn't in a group of more than two blocks as it turns into a skull and crossbones. If you click at the skull, it turns red and you get an extra row as a penalty. If a complete column is cleared, the blocks slide to the center of the field. If the blocks rise to the top of the board, the game is over. Ultra Block is an addictive collapse-like game, and unlike Gem Mine, there is even a high-scores board. Happy Puzzling.

Rubik's Cube 4x4 Review

Rubik's Cube 4x4Thanks to my brother I finally added Rubik's Cube 4x4 to my puzzle collection last weekend. Rubik's Cube 4x4 is almost the same as the world famous Rubik's Cube which is 3x3. Object for solving Rubik's Cube is the same as the original one but for th 4x4 there are more. This means there are more possibilities and thus more difficult to solve.
I was surprised it was very easy to rotate a side of the cube, but at several website I read that this is just temporaty and that the 4x4 will break down much easier than the 3x3 version of Rubik's Cube. Until now I was not able to solve Rubik's 4x4 but next weekend I will give it another try. Will keep you posted ;-)

Fit the Position Flash Puzzle Game

Fit the Position Flash Puzzle GameAlready in 2005 Hanfish released a Flash Puzzle game called 'Fit the Position. You can not play this game at their website but there are more than enough websites still hosting Fit the Position. The concept is nice but in my opinion boring after a few levels.
The object of Fit the Position is to get each position marked with a shape occupied by the correct shape. Click on the blue button above any of the boxes containing shapes. When the button is clicked, the shape will move two positions in the direction it faces and any shapes in its path will shift. Each puzzle must be completed before your run out of time to be able to proceed to the next level.Happy Puzzling!

Hand-held Sudoku

Hand-held SudokuNow you certainly must say that this hand-held Sudoku game looks pretty much like a cellphone, but what gives it away would be the monochrome display. The keypad is used to enter answers in lieu of a styles or other input methods. This input method reminds me of the good old days when the Game Boy Advance had some Sudoku titles of its own, with only the D-pad and the A button to help you progress through the game. It measures 52mm x 120mm x 17mm and retails for approximately $8.50 after conversion. Sounds like a pretty affordable alternative to me, rather than busting out the traditional pen and paper version. e-Puzzle concept for kids

USB e-PuzzleAnyone who has kids knows that little ones like those big board type puzzles. The downside is that they tend to not keep up with the pieces very well and once you get several puzzles it’s no fun keeping the pieces with the right puzzle. Lite-on Technology has a new twist on the puzzle for kids called the E-puzzle.
This puzzle uses e-paper technology which comes with pieces that can have any design on them you wish. The pieces appear to always fit together the same way, but the image on the puzzle can change. You connect the device to your PC via USB, which provides the electricity needed to change the puzzle design. The pieces stick to the board magnetically and a stand is on the back so you can display the puzzle like a photo when complete. At this time the E-puzzle is merely a concept, but it is a cool concept [via everything USB]

iFifteen puzzle gameFifteen (also known as slide game) was one of the real first puzzles games I solved. Now Fifteen puzzle game is released especially for the Apple iPhone. Fifteen puzzle for the iPhone is (of course) called iFifteen, it was specifically optimized for Apple iPhone.
From the author: "iFifteen is the first iPhone application from stephan.com. To play, touch a tile next to the empty space. Pictures are mine unless otherwise credited. Yes, some of them are me. No, it doesn’t scramble the tiles for you - turns out that’s harder than you’d think. No, it doesn’t solve the puzzle for you."

Topsy Turvy - Flash Puzzle Game with a Twist

Topsy Turvy - Flash Puzzle GameTopsy Turvey is a nice Flash puzzle game like Same Game and also this puzzle game has really a nice twist. While trying to click all colored blocks (they only disappear when you click more than three connected blocks of the same color) and clear the game board before time runs out. The twist in this game is that the game board rotates, causing the blocks to tumble around (like your wash in a washing machine), mixing up all blocks every time the game board rotates. As said before, nice game which will entertain you for a while. There is only one downside I can find in Topsy Turvy are the colors, some blocks are red or brown and at my screen they look almost the same color. You can play Topsy Turvy Online or download this puzzle game for you PC as well as your Mac.Happy Puzzling this weekend.

Deducto - The New Sudoku?

Deducto the Sudoku alternativeQuebec-based Deducto Multimedia International is launching Deducto, a captivating logic puzzle game. Thanks to its clever design, Deducto promises to quickly become a much-loved feature of the puzzle pages in newspapers and magazines. It might just become the favorite pastime of readers who enjoy intellectually challenging games that stimulate reasoning, memory and deductive skills. Original and engaging, Deducto is sure to stand up to the highly popular Sudoku.

Deducto was invented in 1971 by Denis Poirier and a well-kept secret until 1994. Today, Deducto relies on an intelligent-generation software able to produce billions of playing grid combinations. In addition, fans can enjoy games that feature various levels of difficulty in a wide range of languages.

The object of Deducto is using the clues and playing grid, identify the order in which each digit and letter must be entered to discover the Deducto solution. There are three main rules:
1. There can only be a single digit and letter per column.
2. Elements of a single clue must always be entered in columns immediately next to one another.
3. Each element of a clue (digit or letter) must be entered only once in the playing grid, and only in a single box in its own row.

For me Deducto is not the new Sudoku but just like Slitherlink another puzzle I love to solve. Some diversity in the puzzle I solve, makes sure I am not getting bored by one of them.

Deducto is also available online on Deducto Website (http://www.deducto.com). There, puzzle lovers can play this logic game in a different way than its printed version. Deducto will be available in newspapers and magazines beginning on August 17, 2007.

Colour Connect - Flash Puzzle Game

Colour Connect - Flash Puzzle GameColour Connect is originally created for JayIsGames contest, by SkyLogic.ca. It's a simple Flash puzzle game and easy to understand, simple to pick-up and play, and the randomly generated puzzles present a challenge that is difficult to master. My experience is that the most simple puzzle games are most of the time the best puzzle games. Every time you play Colour Connect the puzzles are different, only the first levels can be too easy after a while. The objective of Colour Connect is to clear all coloured discs by clicking on them one at a time, the next disc you click has to have at least one colour matching a colour of the previous disc you've clicked. The game also features an autosave function and also a level generator which has to be unlocked first. Colour Connect has twenty levels and two different puzzle modes (normal and timed). Happy Puzzling.

Hoshi Saga - Search The Star

Hoshi Saga Flash Puzzle GameHoshi Saga is a simple looking little flash puzzle game created by Yoshio Ishii. There are little to no instructions given. The game is to discover a star covered in each of the 36 stages. That’s all you get, as said it look and sound simple but the truth is different. It’s a game of trial and discovery. Your clicks will do something different in each stage. And, yes, there is always a star to be found. The 36 stages in Hoshi Saga (search a Star in Japanese) are all given a rating, and a general rule of thumb seems to be that the higher the rating, the more difficult the stage. To play all 36 stages you have to solve 25 stages to unlock eleven other stages. Just use your 'Point and Click' skills to collect the 36 stars. If you're stucked you can return later to solve the other levels, an automatic save function allows you to return later. I will not spoil the fun by publishing the walkthrough for Hoshi Saga, a search via Google will help you for sure. [via puzzlinks.com]

Pathem - The Path Puzzle

Pathem - The Path PuzzleToday I received an email from Jonathan about a new puzzle and new website called Pathem. This new puzzle is a kind of crossword puzzle. From a description you will have to puzzle to find a phrase. The letters from the phrase you'll have to fill into a grid in one single continuous path. There are only enough open grid spaces to write each letter once, so the path will overlap itself as it moves horizontally, vertically and diagonally through the grid, revisiting letter spaces as needed to complete the continuous letter path. One letter will be provided as a hit. There are different difficulty levels available including a scoring system for Pathem Puzzles. The only downside I can think of is that there may be more than one correct solution for a Pathem puzzle.

Every day you can find a puzzle on the Pathem Blog and every week a printer friendly pdf version of the Pathem puzzles are published including a separate pdf version with the solutions.

And as they say at Pathem: "From beginner to expert, there are Pathem puzzles for everyone. Easy to pick up, hard to put down."

In actuality, the puzzle is more of a mosaic of portraits which doubles as a social network. There really isn’t any solving necessary. Instead, you sign up, add your pic and profile, and find your friends and acquaintances. The search function lets you scour for old classmates and search for people in your area. You can save parts of the puzzle using a puzzle mark, essentially a snapshot bookmark to which you can add comments and descriptions. You can group photos of yourself and your chums, and publish your personal puzzle marks on your website or blog. So far OpenPuzzle boasts 519 portraits from people in 14 countries. Bejeweled for iPhone

Bejeweled for iPhoneBejeweled is, perhaps, the most popular game for PDAs and smart-phone ever released. That's why it's not really a surprise that PopCap, the company behind the title, has introduced a version of Bejeweled for Apple's new iPhone.

As the original match-3 puzzle game, Bejeweled has spawned a legion of imitators over the years. We can attest to the fact that it is very simple to play yet addicting. Once you start it's hard to stop.

You begin with an 8 x 8 board filled with various jewels. You have to swap any two adjacent gems to create rows of 3 or more of the same type. When a line is cleared from the board new gems replace it.

As with all other applications released for the iPhone so far, Bejeweled runs through the iPhone's Safari Web browser, and not directly on the device itself. According to PopCap, this customized version of Bejeweled has been optimized to take advantage of the iPhone’s unique display and touch controls.

Bejeweled for the iPhone is free—simply log on to www.popcap.com via the iPhone’s Web browser to play. We tried this. When you go to that Web address you're automatically redirected to the game at http://static.popcap.com/iphone/.

As with other Safari-based iPhone applications, you can access Bejeweled not just through Safari on the iPhone but in other smart-phone and desktop browsers as well. Keep in mind; because it is formatted for the iPhone, it may not look right in these other contexts. [via PDAstreet]
