Puzzle This - 3D Puzzle Game

Puzzle ThisPuzzle This is a 3D-ish puzzle game by AaronOfTomorrow.

Although there are just three levels it's a nice little 3D brain trainer. Try to get all the blocks into the 3D frame provided. More levels would be welcome, but as the 3D frames should get larger this is not really possible. Other problem I have is that the handling of the blocks into the 3D wire frame is not always as I expect to react. Happy Puzzling!

Preposterous Puzzle

Preposterous PuzzleSome of the joy of a puzzle is determining an effective strategy for solving it. However the Preposterous Puzzle makes us want to claim impossibility. At first glance you see a square completely filled with wooden pieces. then you are asked to insert a smaller square into the middle without removing any pieces.

Obviously there is just not enough space, but apparently no-one told the folks making this puzzle that it's inherently flawed and unsolvable. But is it?

Put this on your desk and watch as your friends and co-workers cry foul on the Preposterous Puzzle. It silently taunts them and they refuse to open their minds. The all wood construction looks sharp while your puzzle silently snickers.

Product Features
- Clever Puzzle seems impossible to solve... but is it?
- Not too difficult once you open your mind to the possibility
- Taunt your friends and co-workers as they cry foul
- All wood construction

Magic Cube

Magic CubeBack in the 80s, there was one thing that caused millions of badly-dressed people to laugh, sob and gnaw their knuckles in utter frustration. No, not Simon Le Bon's dancing, the Rubik's Cube. This infuriatingly addictive multi-colored puzzle was a true superstar back in the day, and the quest to match its colored faces remains as challenging as ever.

But even icons need a makeover once in a while, so some bright spark has taken the basic cube concept and given it a Noughties revamp. Ladies and gentlemen, we give you the ultra-sleek Magic Cube. This electronic version of the world's greatest arthritis-inducing brain-mangler is set to become a post-millennial puzzling sensation, and it's even more compelling than the original.

Built in games:
- Land mine Game: 6 players take it in turns to push a button until they hit a land mine... Kaboom!
- Memory Game: Try and remember the color sequence set by the cube - Simon style!
- Noughts and Crosses: Using one side only - it's first to three in a row!

Basically the entire digital shebang is crammed with color-changing LEDs, so instead of manually twisting segments you press buttons to move the colors in the desired direction. Genius. But wait, there's more: the Magic Cube contains other games, including Land mine (six players take it in turn to push a button until they hit a 'land mine'), Noughts and Crosses and a Simon-style follow-my-leader challenge.

On the off-chance you tire of fiddling with this smart, take-anywhere block of unadulterated brilliance you can activate its mood light function and gawp in wonder as its internal LEDs illuminate randomly. The effect is really rather relaxing. Which is just as well because you might be tempted to chuck the Magic Cube out of the window and drop a grand piano full of anvils on it after you fail to solve it for the kajillionth time. You can't even cheat by peeling off the colors and gluing them back in the right place. Not that we ever did that, you understand.

The original twisty-turny cube won countless design awards back in its heyday, and we fully expect this hi-tech version to follow suit. It really is a beautifully put-together object. All you have to do is solve it. [via Firebox] Happy Puzzling!

Virgin's Day In The Cloud Challenge

Day In The CloudRemember crossword puzzles? Those delightful little grids of trivia fun that both validated your esoteric knowledge and made flight time pass quickly? Thanks to the ubiquity of iPods, Amazon Kindles and in-flight WiFi, poor puzzles have withered into being an old man's Sunday afternoon activity. But they're back! Kind of!

On Wednesday June 24 2009, the Wifi-enabled fleet of Virgin America's planes invite their passengers and those on the ground to whip out their critical thinking and put the credit cards away for a day of free puzzle challenges. It's being called the "Day In the Cloud," and although details are still fuzzy on exactly what sort of games we'll be playing, they assure us that practice tasks will be shared beforehand.

As for the prizes for top scorers, they're pretty sweet: things like a new HP netbook, 1 terabyte of Google Account storage, and a year of flying free on VA with complimentary WiFi. According to them, playing along will be simple as all you'll need is "a net connection, a Google Account, and the warm, comforting glow of your computer screen." Since we've long been devotees of good old in-flight puzzles, you know we're game. Sign up now at the Day In The Cloud website. [via jaunted.com] Happy Puzzling!

Puzzazz - Twitter Puzzles

The social networking service Twitter is becoming a popular method of connecting with people and tracking events. Could it become a popular medium for puzzles, as well? Puzzazz, the puzzle site from Seattle entrepreneur Roy Leban, is venturing into that space.

Puzzazz this week extended its reach by launching new "successive reveal" puzzles on Twitter. People who follow the @puzzazz Twitter account will see clues for each puzzle in a series of tweets. The first person to figure it out and tweet the solution will get public credit in a reply tweet from puzzazz, and on the puzzle's page on Puzzazz.

Some of the puzzles combine elements of "Wheel of Fortune" and trivia games, such as, "Clue 1 of 11: W _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ C _ _ _ _ D _ _ ?" -- which would be progressively revealed to say, "WHERE IS THE SPACE NEEDLE?"

Other puzzles will offer a series of trivia-based clues, such as "The second model of it is in Brazil," and "It was patented in 1879." (The answer to that one was the Statue of Liberty.)

Leban plans to continue offering a few clues after a correct solution is submitted, to continue the challenge for Twitter users who haven't yet figured it out or seen the solution on the Puzzazz puzzle page. The separate daily and Sunday puzzles will continue on Puzzazz itself, in addition to monthly "supersized" puzzles.

Puzzazz also created a special tech crossword puzzle for TechFlash last month, and we're exploring ways of publishing more of those. Happy Puzzling!

Color Lines - iPhone Puzzle Game

Color LinesThe original Color Lines is back and this time for iPhone and iPod Touch, thanks to Piston Games.

The legendary Russian casual game Color Lines (beside Tetris) is back, but there's something special about this particular version. It's an original version of year 1992. It's not a clone or remake, It's 100% authentic Color Lines of DOS times spawned hundreds of remakes.

Interesting facts about the game for iPhone and iPod:
- 100% authentic, without any changes in memory of original 16 years old. Special present for fans and special chance to point where it all began (they even kept the old speakers sound).
- One of the most addictive time wasters. Color Lines is very easy to learn but hard to master. As soon as you learn to clean almost full board of balls you'll experience truly addictive game play.
- They added an undo button for the sake of game play. Beside that all interface carefully recreated from the original game. It wasn't easy to put this all into iPhone screen but they hope they managed to do it the best way possible despite some minor glitches.
- As in the original you're playing to become a king.

Redstar Fall Pro - Online Puzzle Game

Redstar Fall ProRedstar Fall Pro | Armor Games is a physics based block removal puzzle game by ArmorGames.

After the original puzzle game Redstar Fall there is now finally Redstar Fall Pro. This version has 20 harder levels than the first version. Your goal is to put red star on a platform as fast and as less clicks as you can. But be careful, don't let the Redstar fall down from the platform. Use your left mouse click to remove shapes, use 'space bar' or 'r' key to restart level. For now this is my favorite time waster. Happy Puzzling!

Bango - Online Puzzle Game

BangoBango is a great platform puzzle game by A10.com

In this platform puzzle game you have to remove all the blocks by touching them. But this is not so easy as you'll have to find the right way and knock all blocks down to reach the next level. You can remove a block by stepping on it. While standing on it, it will be highlighted. When you step off, it will fall away.

Game instructions are simple: Left/Right = Move and Space = Jump. Happy Puzzling!

Gridshock - Online Puzzle Game

GridshockGridshock is a match three kind of puzzle game by Bowler Hat Games. Only this time blocks (lights) don't fall down from the top but move in from the left of the game grid.

Match three or more lights of the same color, in any direction, and don't let the grid fill up! Simply click each row on the grid to activate new lights. Keep the grid from overflowing by matching connected lights in groups of three or more. Control the tide as the timer fills up and new columns are activated automatically. Get big cascading combos for the maximum possible score and a maybe even place on the leader board.

Match a set of three or more adjacent lights to clear them from the board. A set of matched lights need not appear in a straight line. Players can earn more points by creating multiple matches at once. Click a row with the mouse to activate a new light. Alternatively, use the 'up' and 'down' arrow keys to navigate the rows and the 'space bar' to activate a new light. Happy Puzzling!

Dodek Duo Puzzle

Dodek Duo PuzzleA few days ago I finally received the Dodek Duo Puzzle from and made in the USA by the Dodek Puzzle Company.

The Dodek Duo Puzzle consists of twelve separate, sturdy plastic puzzle pieces that can be assembled to create a twelve-sided, regular dodecahedron. Magnetic elements inside the puzzle pieces snap the puzzle pieces into the correct position where they stay until a gentle force breaks the magnetic bonds.

Dodek Duo Puzzle can be solved in two different ways:
The first challenge is to assemble the twelve Dodek Duo puzzle pieces into a regular dodecahedron by matching colors across each of the thirty edges. Only one solution exists to the color challenge.
The second, more difficult game is to assemble the twelve Dodek Duo Puzzle pieces into the dodecahedron by matching the small inset geometric shapes across each of the thirty edges. The colors may or may not match. Focus only on the inset geometric shapes.

With a Dodek Duo Puzzle you have a good quality 3D puzzle with great colors (by using the additive color system). For me there is only one question left and that's: 'why is it called a Duo puzzle' as for me both ways to solve puzzles are the same, the only difference is to use the shapes and non matching colors or only colors. As well for me the shapes solution is a more difficult than colors, but that's just how my brain works and of course related to the number of solutions possible.

Dodek Duo Puzzle is also available via Amazon.com. Happy Puzzling!

UPDATE (feedback received from Dodek Puzzle):
During development, we realized that the single solution for matching colors is not that difficult to find. We added the additional challenge of matching the inset shapes as a second, alternative puzzle (hence the "Duo" name). With three shapes to match instead of five colors, solving the shape challenge is much, much more difficult that solving the colors (even though multiple solutions for the shape challenge exist).
