This ball might not suggest that it is a puzzle unless someone told you it was. It claims to be fairly difficult at 8 out of 10. Cyclone Puzzle consists of 30, identically shaped pieces. Each piece has 2 straight sides and 2 curved sides, opposite to one another, On each corner is a “hook”. The pieces are made of thin, fairly flexible plastic. It is simple to take apart, starting at any point where the pieces are “hooked” together. Putting it together is a little harder, but it is quite obvious once you get started. There [Read More...]
Logika Spiele is a German company that specializes in original puzzle designs usually created with bright colorful plastic. I have a couple of their puzzles and I really liked to play with them. The first puzzle I played with was the Cuboid in Cuboid (reviewed here), and this time I decided to try the Numbers Labyrinth, which is a rather nice packing puzzle.
The puzzle comes in a nice handy cover very convenient to take it on your travels, sliding into place rather easily and this way protecting the pieces from falling. The frame is black and the [Read More...]
This is the Impossiburr puzzle from Oskar van Deventer. Oskar has been making puzzles at Shapeways shop for quite awhile and keeps coming out with great designs all the time. I am reminded of M.C. Escher when I see this puzzle as the sides look like they shouldn’t be joined together. I really had to use my dexterity to get this one back to its original form. Here Oskar is explaining a little about it, giving us a tease [Read More...]
On a scale of difficulty of 1-5; this is a 1. The Adams Cube is actually a simpler version of the classic Chinese Tangram puzzle, having 5 pieces as opposed to 7. It is completely durable and would withstand plenty of hard use, even in a classroom. About the only thing that could happen is if a piece or two got lost. It does have possibilities of extending its use after the six shapes on the sides of the cube have been done. How about seeing how fast all sides can be completed, either as individuals or by relay teams? The [Read More...]
If there ever was a tantalizing puzzle, the Prison Block Puzzle has to be it. It has a difficulty of 2 out of 5. It is very solid, made of cast metal, 3″ X 3″ X 1″ thick, and fairly heavy. It consists of a movable bar trapped, with a rotatable “handle”, inside a container. The challenge being to remove the bar or “prisoner”. It seems the bar, though loose, is simply too large to get out; and there seems to be only so much you can do to get it out. I played and jiggled it [Read More...]
This 15 Puzzle is one of the all time most popular puzzles – right up there with Rubik’s Cube. I have loved puzzles of all kinds ever since I was a kid, over 70 years ago. The 15 Puzzle was probably my first puzzle and it has always challenged, entertained and fascinated me. I have had many, many versions of it over the years. This one by Binary Arts/ThinkFun is one of my favorites for several reasons. It is extremely well made of metal, the tiles slide exceptionally well and do not fall out, and [Read More...]
Fit to a Tee Golf Puzzle is a “sister” to The “Fifteen Puzzle” by the same company. They have been around for quite a while. Mine has a date of 2001 and made by Binary Arts; the company is now called ThinkFun. It is made of metal and very solid. The data shows the shipping weight as 2 pounds; but the puzzle is nowhere near that, maybe 1/2 pound at the most; and can easily be carried in the pocket; except for one thing. If you look at the “1 [Read More...]
