Cast S&S has been around for years. It is not the least bit intimidating; so just about anyone will “give it a try”. It has a Difficulty Rating of 7 out of 10; so you can expect that it will give a good challenge. Many mechanical puzzles require several moves to solve, but this one requires only 2.Being sturdily cast metal, it will not break and will not break. Unlike many puzzles that require several sequential moves to disassemble and then reassemble, and then get tossed aside as too difficult; this one can be solved by almost anyone [Read More...]
It’s safe to assume that everyone reading this loves puzzles. But what do puzzles and games do for us besides relax and entertain? From some reading I’ve been doing around the web, more than you may think.
Neuroplasticity is an emerging new science that looks at how the brain isn’t as hard wired as we may think it to be. It instead looks at the brain as a soft wired piece of equipment which adapts to the needs of individuals over time. It is a sort of functional evolution that occurs very subtly and quite necessarily for [Read More...]
My name is Matthew and I made the mistake/wise choice of making puzzles a large part of my life. I work for Puzumi Puzzles, we distribute puzzles that are artistic in a modern art sort of way, and that have a strategy game twist to them. In short, they’re crack for intellectual nerds with an artistic bent…you know, nerds like me.
This article is about my descent into puzzling madness, how it has stayed in my life over the years and how I allowed it to take over my professional life. Life is like a box [Read More...]
Cast ABC is a classic puzzle that has been around for years. I am not sure when it first appeared; but it would not surprise me if it is over 100 years old. I first came across it many years ago and still find it fun to solve myself or give to others. It is usually found in books of puzzles that have been around a long time. It has been sold by many companies. The other reviewer claims it to be a difficulty 1.I have seen it given difficulties of 3 and even 7.It is what I [Read More...]
Magic 16 is a marvelous puzzle for several reasons. First its shape and then the vibrant colors. That alone makes it “friendly” rather than “scary” for anyone first encountering. It comes with information and instructions. It comes all together, so one gets somewhat familiar with it by just looking at it and taking it apart. Even if one needs to turn to the instructions to put it together, the challenge remains too put it together later without the aid of the instructions. The pieces are made of heavy plastic and it has a ball made of metal that the pieces [Read More...]
This ball might not suggest that it is a puzzle unless someone told you it was. It claims to be fairly difficult at 8 out of 10. Cyclone Puzzle consists of 30, identically shaped pieces. Each piece has 2 straight sides and 2 curved sides, opposite to one another, On each corner is a “hook”. The pieces are made of thin, fairly flexible plastic. It is simple to take apart, starting at any point where the pieces are “hooked” together. Putting it together is a little harder, but it is quite obvious once you get started. There [Read More...]
Logika Spiele is a German company that specializes in original puzzle designs usually created with bright colorful plastic. I have a couple of their puzzles and I really liked to play with them. The first puzzle I played with was the Cuboid in Cuboid (reviewed here), and this time I decided to try the Numbers Labyrinth, which is a rather nice packing puzzle.
The puzzle comes in a nice handy cover very convenient to take it on your travels, sliding into place rather easily and this way protecting the pieces from falling. The frame is black and the [Read More...]
