When I first saw this picture of Circles 1, all I could think of is a giant lotus flower from the top view. The intricate shading and use of color create the illusion of depth.
About the Circles 1
Circles1 by Monica Buch was created by the logical application of color sets in geometric structures and reconnoitering the boundaries of perception. The interpretation of colors and shapes are based on the theories of Gestalt which has greatly influenced the way Monica has worked with her art.
About the Artist
Monica Buch was born in Valencia in 1936, in a turbulent time, just before the start of the civil war. She attended Spanish school. The philosophies of Max Bill and the school buildings designed by him have opened the eyes of Monica to modern architecture.
Monica studied at the University of Utrecht where she took up a course on Child Psychology and Pedagogy. After the completion of the study, Monica worked for a recovery project for children where she designed educational tools and play kits. Since 1983, Monica has worked full time as an artist.
