I believe that Erik Johansson is a Photoshop wizard. I am a hundred percent convinced that he is a genius for his “cover up road” illusions. He is actually one of my favorite visual artists because of his talent and expertise in creating a deceptive setting.
About the Go Your Own Road
As a Photographer and Visual Artist, Erik Johansson has created impossible but photorealistic images that capture an idea. This is another masterpiece where Erik has made a fantastical scenario come to life, while keeping it visually plausible.
About the Artist
Erik Johansson was born in 1985 outside a small town called Götene in the middle of Sweden. Erik grew up on a farm with his parents and two younger sisters. He also got interested in computers. At the age of 15, he got his first digital camera which opened up a new world for him. Erik didn’t considered photography a profession until years later.
In 2005, he moved to Gothenburg to study Computer engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. After publishing some of his images online, Erik started to receive requests about commissioned work from some local advertisement agencies. He started out freelancing in parallel with his studies while still working on personal projects. He finished his studies with a master in Interaction Design. Erik felt like he wanted to try out the photography path. He moved to Norrköping in the eastern part of Sweden to start working full time as a freelance photographer. Erik made new friends and got to work on interesting projects, both local and abroad. In early 2012 it was time for something new and he moved to Berlin, Germany – a very artistic city with lots of inspiration.
Today Erik works with both personal and commissioned projects. In 2011 he started doing photography street illusions. In November 2011 he spoke at the TED conference in London about his photography and in May 2013 at the Adobe MAX conference. Erik has worked with clients such as Google, Adobe and Microsoft, but his personal work and concepts will always be what’s most important to him. Growing up in the Swedish countryside had a big impact on his visual style. According to Erik, inspiration is everywhere and what you can imagine is what you can create.
