Incomprehensible Cube

The Incomprehensible Cube is a twisty puzzle that will boggle your mind.  There is no discernable inner core.  You can stick an object through the holes and still turn it. Another great idea from Oskar van Deventer.

You can purchase Incomprehensible Cube at Shapeways.

Cast G&G

Cast G&G

The Cast G&G is one of the latest members in the vast Cast Puzzle family, just released in June 2013. Curiously enough, it’s not the first time Hanayama uses entangled letters for the theme of their Cast Puzzles. In fact, there are three other puzzles from Hanayama that also use letters: the Cast H&H, the Cast S&S and a slightly different Cast ABC (see PuzzleMaster’s version). Despite the fact that the Cast ABC has three letters, all of the above mentioned puzzles are comprised by only two [Read More...]

1 x 9 #2

1 x 9 #2

1 x 9 by Jean Claude Constantin is a fascinating little puzzle. There are a few reasons for this, and if you’re a fan of packing puzzles you’re in for a real treat. Let’s start by its name, 1 x 9. It’s as simple as that, you have 9 distinct pieces arranged in a 3 x 3 one-layer frame and your task is to remove all pieces and pack them again so that all of the tray’s area is occupied without any empty spaces. This could easily describe a good portion of all packing puzzles out there, if we weren’t [Read More...]

The Playful Brain: The Surprising Science of How Puzzles Improve Your Mind (Hardcover)

I have been a fan of puzzles of many kinds for about 65 years; and have somewhere around 700 puzzle and Mathematical Recreation books in my library; along with hundreds of hand held or mechanical puzzles. I have no idea of how many hours I’ve spent enjoying puzzles, why I like them so much, or why I like some types of puzzles more than others. The Playful Brain is the first book I’ve come across that delves deeply into the various types of puzzles and the parts of the brain that become involved in solving [Read More...]
